26th October 2021

The AD year is relentlessly following its path with the days getting shorter at an alarming rate. The agricultural based plants are getting the last of the maize into bulging clamps and the food waste plants are looking forwards to the gluts of Christmas.

When we look back on 2021 it could well be with a sense of relief that it’s over and we are now looking forward to a more predictable future. And the future does look good, with Covid now hopefully behind us, a solid bankable green gas support scheme in place as well as a government promise to collect food waste; collectively allowing new plants to go ahead with upgrade and expansion plans moving forwards.

It’s with this sense of general optimism that it’s easy to forget those parts of the day job that are not frequent occurrences, and one of these is the annual safety checks; those things that all plant operators should do but are easy to forget. With life now busier and back to a version of normal as we once knew, it is easy to let these checks slip.   Annual safety checks are important, we all need to have the peace of mind that we have a plant that’s safe to operate with automatic safety systems working as intended.

One of the problems all AD operators have is the relentless day to day pressure of running a plant. So, if you want some piece of mind, give Marches a call, we can come in and not only review and test the list of checks you carry out but make sure they are done systematically and recorded.  Should your plant be one of the 25 AD sites the HSE plan to visit over the next 6 months you can be confident that you tick the box for process safety.
